Table Cape Lighthouse

Table Cape Lighthouse

Situated on top of the remains of a 13 million year-old volcano whose basalt lava flows over time created the rich, fertile farming soils that surround the area, Table Cape Lighthouse presides over the remarkable views of Tasmania’s island coastline and agricultural farmlands. First lit up on August 1, 1888, the lighthouse was entered onto the Tasmanian Heritage Register in 1998 in recognition of its importance to maritime history in Tasmania. Visitors to the lighthouse can view the unique Victorian structure, see remnants of the original lighthouse keeper's cottages and schoolhouse and the gravesite of his 14 month-old son, Bertram. A visit to the lighthouse is not complete without experiencing the magnificent views along the Lighthouse to Lookout track - which is a gentle 45 min return amble along the spectacular clifftop.

Tours of the Lighthouse are available, for more information please visit http://www.tablecapelighthousetours.com.au/
